Year 5

The Year 5 Team
Year 5 Teacher: Miss Ratcliffe
Teaching Assistant: Mrs Charles

Please find below some important information about this year. If you have any queries or questions, please do not hesitate to contact us via the school office.

PE Kits: PE will be on a Thursday morning. PE kits should be sent to school as soon as possible and we will send them home to be washed at half term. Kits and pumps should be named. Details of all kit and uniform is in the planner.

Reading: Year 5 children are expected to read independently at home at least 4 times per week. Evidence of reading may be noted in the planner by pupils but parents/guardians must sign planners at the end of each week ready to be checked the following Monday. All of our Whole Class Shared Reading books can be found within our Reading Journey (linked on the Curriculum webpage).

Writing: The writing opportunities covered within this year are included within our Whole School Grammar Writing Journey which can be found on the Curriculum webpage. Throughout the year, we rely upon a variety of texts to support our writing and vocabulary as well as to fuel our imaginations. The pieces we will write are diverse and aim to expand children’s knowledge of purpose and audience.

Planners are required in school every day. In the planner there are several sections that must be read and completed by parents/carers concerning short walks and excursions as well as internet usage and E-safety. It is important that that you complete these sections as soon as possible and encourage your child to look at the sections they need to complete.

Outdoor Coat: Please ensure your child has a warm and preferably waterproof coat to wear at break and lunchtimes.

Snack: Children can purchase a healthy snack every day; it costs 30p per item (there is a choice of up to 2 items: toast with either apple/orange juice or milk). It would be especially helpful if your child could bring the correct change.

Lunch will cost £2.60 per day and should be paid for online via Parent Pay, the menu is published on the website.

Homework will be given out on a Friday to be completed and returned by the following Wednesday. Your child will be expected to complete both Maths and Grammar homework. In addition to this, children must complete 2 lessons of Reading Plus each weekend; this will be monitored by the class teacher.

Topics: All History, Geography, Science, Design & Technology, PSHE, Spanish and Art topics that we cover over the year are detailed in the long-term planning documents which are available on the Curriculum webpage.

Getting in touch: Any concerns or questions that you may have may be noted within planners or you can also visit, call or email the office.
